Focus On Living
Day Programming
Focus On Living operates a state-licensed day program M-F at its beautiful and contemporary Lincoln Park facility. There, clients take part in groups designed to meet their needs – coping skills, cognitive rehab, chemical dependency, budgeting, healthy eating & living, current events, literacy, music, physical therapy and more. Also, clients meet their general practitioner, psychiatrist, neuropsychologist, physical therapist and behavioral therapist all under one roof at the Day Program. Care teams enjoy the comfort of a conference room. Clients have access to computer stations, a relaxation area, kitchenette, and even a state-of-the-art physical therapy station.
Health and Fitness
Our “Clients Come First” philosophy draws heavily on a complete mind and body focus. To ensure that our clients are living as active of a lifestyle as possible, each of the five houses meets three times a week at the local YMCA. There, they will engage with other peersand staff in a game of basketball, racquetball, weight training, pilates stretching or many other fun and diversified activities.
Outings and Events
Our clients enjoy everything Duluth and its charms have to offer, including aquarium visits, collegiate hockey and football games, weekly bowling, the Lakewalk & Canal Park and much more. They plan their activities every Monday during Day Program sessions that teach valuable communication skills, including consensus building and compromise.
Independent Living Skills
EOur clients are evaluated and instructed each week on their living skills – hygiene cooking, cleaning, laundry – in an effort to increase their independence in these vital areas.”
Vocational Skills and Education
Our clients have the opportunity to pursue both a job and an education. Our Day Program refers clients to the Adult Learning Center (a free public school program for pursuit of a high school diploma or GED) and even Lake Superior College. Also, our clients can pursue a job, with hands on vocational training (including help with applications and mock interviews) and numerous volunteer opportunities (including regular opportunities with the zoo, the animal shelter, the local symphony and playhouse, the Salvation Army, food shelf and more.
The goal is to keep clients active and receptive to life. Our clients …
- Go on field trips – to the Minnesota State Fair, to a Twins game
- Hold game days in local parks
- Go fishing & camping
- Help plan their menus and nightly activities
- Generally, plug into their community as both a social and productive member of society
